Business listings
Listings start from municipal business licence records that cities publish as open data. We import what the record contains: business name, trade name, licensed address, licence number, type, status and dates, and in some cities a business phone number and website.
Some licences belong to sole proprietors, so a listing can show a person's name as the business name. When a city marks a licence as home-based, we don't show the phone number from that record on the website.
Current sources: City of Vancouver, City of Burnaby, City of Surrey, City of Coquitlam, City of New Westminster, City of Maple Ridge, City of Port Moody, Township of Langley, City of Delta, City of Kelowna, City of Victoria, City of Prince George, District of Squamish.
Business owner accounts
When a business owner signs in and claims a listing, we collect:
- Your email address, to sign you in with an emailed link. We don't use passwords.
- What you submit in a claim: your name and role, business phone numbers, licence number, trades, service areas and strata experience. We use it to check the claim and, once approved, to publish your listing.
- What you add later: insurance and WorkSafeBC expiry dates, a description, logo and photos.
- Insurance certificates you upload. Only our team sees them, to check the “Insurance on file” badge.
Visitors and analytics
You can browse and search the directory without an account. If you allow analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: pages viewed, searches (trade and area), which listings are opened, and taps on a listed phone number or website. We don't use it for advertising, and we don't sell data.
Separately, we count views of each listing and taps on its phone number or website, so Pro members can see how their listing performs. These counts store only the listing, the kind of action and the time. There's no cookie, name, email or IP address in them.
Cookies
- Sign-in (needed for the site to work). If you sign in, a session cookie keeps you signed in.
- Your cookie choice (
ocs_consent, one year) remembers whether you accepted analytics. - Google Analytics (
_ga,_ga_*, up to two years) is used only if you allow it. In Quebec, the EU, the UK and Switzerland, analytics stays off until you accept. Elsewhere it's on unless you decline.
Change your choice any time: . Declining removes the Google Analytics cookies.
Payments
Pro subscriptions are paid through Stripe. Stripe collects and stores your card details; we never see or store them. We keep your subscription status and a Stripe customer reference so we can turn Pro on and off.
Who processes data, and where
We use these service providers. Some store or process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage (Canada, Montreal region).
- Vercel: website hosting (servers in the United States).
- Resend: sign-in emails (United States).
- Stripe: payments (United States and other countries).
- Google Analytics: usage analytics, only with your consent (United States).
How long we keep it
- Listings stay while the licence record is current. When a city stops publishing a licence, we can remove the listing.
- Owner accounts and claims stay until you ask us to delete them.
- Insurance certificates are replaced when you upload a new one, and deleted with your account.
- Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months.
Your choices and rights
- Correct a listing. Owners can claim and edit it. Anyone can email us about wrong information.
- Remove personal information from a listing, such as a sole proprietor's name or a home phone number. Email us from the business and we'll remove it from the site.
- Access or delete your account information. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
- Analytics. Decline in the cookie banner, or use a browser setting or extension that blocks it.
